Contribution:

Dr Melanie Lau

Patient data: 64-year-old Female

Presentation: CT neck with contrast

Diagnosis:

Sclerosed right arytenoid and ossified left arytenoid.

Commentary:

Likely normal variant with no mass lesions seen adjacent to the arytenoids.

This patient had no history of vocal or laryngeal symptoms at time of diagnosis.

Arytenoids can be affected by certain types of arthritis, such as osteoarthritis, at the cricoarytenoid joint (CAJ), and which can affect the mineralisation of the arytenoid.

Care should be taken if there are any voice or other throat symptoms, to exclude laryngeal carcinoma contributing to the appearance.
